The trouble here

@ November 30, 2012 9:45 PM in Teflon tape, applied correctly.

Is thats the gas line.

This may help

Removing Radiation From Monoflo Systems
An issue we can run into with these systems is when we want to remove a section of radiation. We cannot just remove a section of radiation and cap the lines. We must either remove the tees and install a section of pipe the same size as the main pipe or cut off the vertical risers and connect them together. If we do not remove the tee's or connect the riser it will affect the flow in all the radiation in the system. Remember as we reduce system flow we reduce the heat output from the system

Triangl Tube

Best boiler on the market. Fire tube, no itty bitty water tube heat exchanger with hi pressure drop.

Are you sure

@ November 28, 2012 9:49 PM in Water in Sight glass on steam boiler goes down 1 1/2 inch a day

Short cycling due to moderate weather will cause a slow water return. Are you sure the feeder is coming on or does the water just return as it should?

80's are gone?

I'm putting a 80% in tomarrow.

System pump

Your suplly tee should be the one closest to you system pump.

Gas valve

@ November 25, 2012 11:59 PM in converting to a standing pilot cant get main valve to deliver gas

Are you sure you are connecting the 24v to the proper gas valve terminals. There are three on some valves. Do you have a milli volt valve? Putting the transformer across the valve will open it if its a good valve and you have the correct terminals.
I would have recommend a honeywell kit with a new spark ing. and gas valve. Cost about $200.00 whitch is normally less then a ing. and valve sold seperatly.

Leakers

@ November 25, 2012 12:52 PM in Evaporator coil failure

I myself have replaced at least 10 evaps this year. The only manufacture I know that for sure has a production issue is Goodman. They have a prossess tube on their coils right on the suction line that is a crimp only no solder. I thought that the first one I saw leaking was a fluke. But I have made at least 3 repairs to that crimp and new coils I put in I solder them before install.

Reversed polarity

@ November 25, 2012 12:44 PM in ComfortMaker Furnace Problem

Sounds like you have swithch your hot and netural wires. The fat white wire from the blower should go to the neturals on the board. Check back to your power switch and make sure the black wire reads 110 to ground and not the white wire.

Thi is a clue

MIDCO ECONOMITE
Everything is clean...pilot lights outside of the boiler when tested.
Gas pressure is the problem

How can it for sure be gas pressure if it lites fine outside the boiler?

Not many around

@ November 25, 2012 12:33 PM in Anyone have information on Smith Boilers Oil http://smithboiler.com/

I have only worked on one Smith boiler and that was recently. The owner said the first gas fired boiler lasted only a year and was replaced. I was there due to a hi CO reading from a energy audit firm. I found that the flame roll out swithch had been bent up and out of the peep hole where it should have been. After I bent it back down it tripped off in less then 5 mins. and when I brought the home owner back down to show him what was done we saw and ever expanding puddle of water coming from the left side of the boiler. Smith offered him a replacement cell only.

What I'm doing

@ November 25, 2012 12:25 PM in Buffer tank

The reason for my using a buffer tank is I have several small zones one is 8' of baseboard piped in 1/2". I have a solo 110 boiler. Right now the boiler is piped prim sec. I have a groundfos alph feeding my zones. I also added a smart 40 when I put the boiler in last year. I took out a oil fired which did not short cycle like my new one. I had my electric water heater tank that was only a couple of years old and my plan was to pipe the boiler return to the bottom of the 50 gal elec. tank where the bottom element was. Pipe my boiler supply to where the top element was. Pipe my system return to bottom 3/4 connection where the drain was and my system supply to the 3/4 hot water outlet. Air vent where the relief valve was and cap off the cold outlet. I have seven zones with the largest pipe size being 3/4. Anybody see a problem with that?

Electrod problem

@ November 23, 2012 2:08 PM in The Mystery nobody can figure out

Are you measuring gas pressure after the valve on the burner side? I doubt you need 3.5 to the pilot. You may be arcing your spark to the inside of the boiler some where other then the electrod. You say it lights fine outside the boiler correct?

Buffer tank

@ November 23, 2012 1:59 PM in Buffer tank

I'm tring to use a 50 gal electric water heater as a buffer tank for my hi eff. boiler. I have removed the elements and I can't get the 1 1/4 male adpter to tighten up snug. I have used 6 wraps of tape and dope on top of that. Any suggestions?
