Steam Rad not heating

@ February 4, 2014 6:36 PM in Steam Rad not heating

Got a call today for a large steam radiator that was not heating and another contractor had just installed a new thermostatic trap. I got there and drained about 10 gallons of water out of the rad. and pulled off the brand new trap and found it was fine. Then there was about 2 mins of gurgling and water started flowing out of the return water line. It did that on and off about every 3 to 5 mins. This rad appears to be on a tier with two other wall mounted rads. One at the entrance way the next higher up on a wall at the top of the first stair case and then the rad I'm serving at the highest point of the tier in an office. The lowest rad on the tier had a cold return line and the second one had a hot return line. I suspect that the trap on that rad is leaking some steam by that is going up the return line and into by top floor rad. I shut off that supply and my top floor rad started heating. Any other ideas on what could cause water to flow up the return line in case the phone rings tomorrow

The furnace turns on [ignites]and then off and restarts. Are the burners going on and off or just the blower? The soot is a very bad thing. A properly operating burner will not make soot. I would keep it off untill some one takes another look at it.

Not have the correct speed settings on the fan. Most are set with dip switches and the default settings are normally for the max air flows.

Fifty steps in Bryants service book for trouble shooting error code 41. Blower failed to reach 250 rpm or failed to communicate in 30 seconds. My guess is you have a "Failure to communicate" as they say in the movie. The service gude says to replace the Modual and motor togeather in all instances not one or the other. looking over the guide the service tech would need at least 3 hours to perform a proper check of that motor and need special equipment.

Every post but no you do not have to drain the boiler to replace the control. You may try using a plastic wire tie through the loop of the jumper wire on the plug to add some tension that will hold the plug down and that will usually work until you get a replacement control. I would also contact Honeywell customer service and let them know your issues with their controls.

It's pouring out the stem just wait unitill the cold weather passes. But you wont crack the boiler by draining it, swaping out the BD and then you can let system water back into the boiler and bleed the rads.

That once you open it manually it stays open? If so you may not have a big enough transformer to power open all the zones which would account for the randomness of the issue.

An old one. Probably a stuck bypass valve. But did you find out why the pump stopped?

Much about the Knight but would highly recommend P/S and a buffer tank. Also leave the plug on the pump and wire a receptacle to the boiler.

@ January 12, 2014 11:48 PM in Why not a zone for every room?

Some thing that is easy to do if you do it from the start. Trying to do it after the house is built requires a big repipe. As far as matching the small bedroom load to the boiler you have to install abuffer tank.

It's all
