They have little perferations in them so the air passes through the fins as well as over them. Sounds like a good idea but really tuff to clean. No matter which way you hose out the dirt and lint [ why is the dryer vent always next to the condenser ] hang up on those holes.

@ July 26, 2013 8:37 AM in drier installed backwardsMade that mistake many years ago. My solution was to peel the sticker off. Nothing I could do about the word" in " stamped on the dryer shell but for the next 10 years it worked fine. And should be ok as long as the dryer descant doesn't start coming apart. Bear in mind my job was low pressure r12 system.

@ July 26, 2013 8:26 AM in Condensation problemIs clogged. If it has a trap which it shouldn't, the clog is likely their. Sometimes tapping with the rubber end of a screw driver will clear it. If that dosent work give a blast of water from a garden hose up the drain for about 2 seconds.

@ July 24, 2013 7:26 PM in low temp splitSure your not recirculating your condenser discharge into your in take. Is the discharge above or below the intake. If your DT is low you need to open the TEV or check for proper air flow. Too much air lowers DT.

Call Carrier direct to find out, just give them ser.# at 1800carrier.probley just the controller is bad and not the motor. If its still under warrant have them replace both.

@ July 1, 2013 10:52 PM in Condenser Fan QuestionSpeed. Turn your system "heat - off - cool " switch at teh Tstat to off. Run your indoor fan by setting that switch on your tstat to " ON ". Wait untill no more water runs out of you drain line or at least 3 hours if there is still any ice on the outdoor unit. If after that it ices up again you need to call someone in.

If on the other hand you can't tell if the compressor is running and pumping in two minutes then by all means call someone in who can.

On the O6's they used refrig. pressure to overcome spring pressure and would load and unload that way. A loaded head would work like a normal recip. a unloaded head would by pass the gas back into the crankcase through a check valve in the valve plate or a bypass internal in the head or external back into the crankcase.

If you replace the tev get the exzact one and just replace the guts and power head do not try and unsweat the valve big can of worms there. Also do your self a favor and but a refrigerant shut off valve in the liquid line at the evap. A pump down solinoid would be a good idea too. I can't belive you have a 100+ feet of liquid and you can't feed the coil are you sure ther is no blocked dryer.If there are no P traps every 10 feet in thr suction line then you may have a coil full of oil but then why is the compressor still running. Check the super heat at the coil, if not 10 - 15 open the valve if that won't get it replace the guts of the valve.
@ June 23, 2013 6:51 PM in why would Compressor vibrate?On the oil pump after the unit has run for 20 mins or so. If its cold you have flood back. It should be warm. If cold put your hand on the heads of the compressor. 20 ton should be a three header. One or more of the heads may have a unloader. Make sure the compressor is fully loaded. One side of all heads should be cool the other very hot. The ones that are all hot have broken valves and a new valve plate should do the trick and then address the flood back problem.
