noneHeatmaker H-series locks out
@ December 10, 2010 1:19 PM in Heatmaker H-series locks out
Hello I have a Heatmaker H-series gas boiler that locks out occasionallyespecially when it gets cold out, Its natural gas supplied and heat only,
Its been fine until last night when the temparture was in the single digits, I shut the boiler off for a bit, changed the igniter because I had a spare, the igniter was fine but what the heck, then turned it back on and it worked ok until sometime in the middle of the night, then it locked out again, Get up at 5 this morning shut the power off turn it on, I guess that resets the lockout and so far its hasn't lockout yet, One more thing I changed out the expansion tank last spring and bleed the system but I have to admit I just checked the tank and there isn't any water in the top of the tank when I tapped it with a coin. Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated, I tried calling a couple of service men today to come over but they are too busy today.
Thank David

does anyone know of any resourses to find out how much condensation per hour or per day a condensing boiler will produce? I'm sure it will vary depending on ODT, set points, etc.Sizing replacement Heat & AC systems
@ August 23, 2010 3:28 PM in Sizing replacement Heat & AC systems
I have some quotes on new system and am a little confused.I have two people recommending the Bryant 80,000 BTU 95% 355CAV and one calling to the 60,000 btu.
Calculations from the contractors are 62,000 and 63,000 btus
A couple rooms have been cold in the past so I'll be adding an extra register and duct work to them and increasing the size of the main duct on that side of the plenum from 14 x 8 to 18 x 8 for the first 4 (of 8) 6" ducts.
This in itself may solve the cold problem in the two rooms but I'm wondering with the extra lines (now 14 6" lines) off the furnace if it isn't better to go with the 80,000 btu's. To complicate it further there are two 355 CAV's at 80,000 btu; one is 042080 and one is 060080. I am gathering the difference here is the blower CFM, with the 060080 being higher cfms.
On the AC there are essentially two recs one is the 186B single stage 2.5 ton and the other is the 187B two stage AC. AC Calc was right at 28,000 btu.
This stuff gets complicated.
Can anyone offer thoughts on which way to go.
House is 1630 Sq feet in central NY and I wish to get some more heat in to the basement. I'm thinking the 355CAV042080 is the way to go. With the 3 stages and variable fan speeds I should have enough to do whats needed without being grossly over sized.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Heating system recommendations
@ April 20, 2010 12:02 PM in Heating system recommendations
Hello,I moved to Maine in 2004 and had a house built with a hot water base board oil fired boiler. The system is the Buderus G 115 direct vent boiler with a Logamatic and a Riello BF 5 burner. This system has been nothing but trouble from day one. It has had a persistent locking-out problem due to rapid soot build-up and nozzle fouling that no heating tech has been able to resolve. A year ago, Buderus sent out one of their techs who pulled the Riello burner and exchanged it with a Becket NX. This solved nothing. I have been thinking seriously about pulling the entire system and replacing it with a wall hung high efficiency propane system (natural gas is not available in my location) and was wondering if anyone can make some recommendations about these systems or any others that might prove more reliable and less problematic. Any advice would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob
one tank- two burners
@ March 10, 2010 8:57 AM in one tank- two burners
Any one know of a gauge, that could be installed on the oil line, that can evaluate the consumption of each individual oil burner?
I understand the pump pressure+nozzle size+hourly burner cycles to determine usage, but I want a simple gauge if any one could lead me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. Any time you have one tank, two burners(tenants)---complaints will be made about usage, without visible evidence. Just looking for a gauge nothing else.
Thanks

@ February 17, 2010 11:44 PM in Wrought Iron radiators
I just bought Dan's EDR book and pumping away, great stuff. There was only 1 page on wrought iron tube radiators and I was wondering if any of them can be used for forced hot water. I saw a circular wrought iron radiator at someone's house a few years back, (vertical tubes arranged in a circular pattern on a cast iron base with a decorative top). I did not own a house or know anything about heating systems at the time so I don't know if it was steam or water. I have seen some other wrought iron radiators on craigslist, showing a steam valve but were unsure if I could use them for my hot water system. I do like the look of them. Any ideas?radiator filling with water

heatmaker boiler
@ December 22, 2003 9:03 PM in Opinions on Trianco Heatmaker
I am in Boston and have a heatmaker that was worked on this summer.($1400) Now every couple weeks the system will fail.A piercing "screeching" noise is made and the system goes off.I believe that this is a problem with combustion as when a service person comes out the next day everything works fine.Do you have any thoughts on how to rectify this problem? Thanks Martin Rooney
