Creeping pressure on boiler

@ December 7, 2012 1:16 PM in Creeping pressure on boiler

Hi fellow contractors! I've been at his p&h business over 30 yrs. Got a Vaillant 80% eff. 25yr. old boiler driving me crazy. New #30 amtrol exp. tank and new pressure reducing valve still get pressure creeping up to relief valve leakage. Boiler sounds a bit limed up when it gets to temp. about 170-180. Exp. tank hooked to bottom of air scoop and has clear passage thru. I even put an additional #30 tank on return side off boiler drain just to try SOMETHING. Worked for 2 wks. got a call again relief leaking. House is only 1600sqft. ranch. Also has 40 gal indirect fired water heater. What am I missing here? Is it the liming up? Even with 2 tanks? I appreciate anyones input.

black streaks above baseboards

@ February 2, 2011 1:09 PM in black streaks above baseboards

I have a client w/ black streaks above all the baseboard radiation  in house. Its a 3yr. old Weil McLain CGA boiler natural gas. Boiler is clean as can be w/ plenty of fresh air in room. Older home which cannot be that air tight. Told her to clean heating elements as good as possible. BB has min. 1" clearance from floor. She swears streaking is has not been there for long. Any other suggestions out there?

@ March 1, 2007 10:12 PM in radiant heat installed on top of basement floor

monoflo hydronic system integrated w/ circuit loop

@ January 22, 2007 6:59 PM in monoflo system integrated w/ cicuit loopsystem

I am doing a addition on a home that has monoflo through out house. I've been doing hydronics for years and really never ran into this scenario. I would like to make the addition a circuit loop zone, with the rest of the being left as is, monoflo. There is a seperate zone valve for this area already. There will be approx. 55' of baseboard installed w/ total circuit lghth of 90' 0n 3/4" cop. tube. Seems doable to me or am I looking for problems?

White Rodgers zone valves

@ November 10, 2006 8:24 PM in My First Knight

I am currently installing a new Weil-Mclain boiler w/ Amtrol WH-7Z BOILERMATE. Existing zone valves are 3-wire White-Rodgers #1311. Boilermate has only 2 stat wires for use on a 2 or 3 wire zone valve. Can I successfully integrate 2 and 3 wire zone motors w/out a seperate isolation 24v relay? I am getting conflicting answers from Weil-Mclain and Amtrol. I'd much rather not add more contols unless necessary. Thanks! I love this website!

Munchkin boilers

@ February 11, 2006 4:54 PM in Munchkin boilers

I am a contractor looking for input as to why I should install a Munchkin boiler. I have installed Weil-Mclain for years along with a few Lochinvar and Veissmann. I would love to here the pros and cons from fellow wetheads.
