Navian tankless gas water hearer / boiler or Quietside
@ March 28, 2011 7:13 AM in Navian tankless gas water hearer / boiler
That is what I am trying to tell my heating contractors I am a sales person for a P&H wholesaler. Bothe the Navian and Quietside are not rated as a boiler. If you want this type unit look at the new Boiler / water heater from Triangle Tube 96% AFUE and it is condensing in both heating and domestic hot water mode. Domestic hot water needs gets priority. Only up to 125.000 BTU input. Must pipe primary secondary. Not the same heat exchanger as the Prestige series that boiler is top of the condensing boilers.BTUs / % Year End Savings

has anyone installed either one of these units as a boiler? any trouble with them as a boiler? I would think they are good for hot water for domestic use but I would not want to us them as a boiler. correct me if I am wrong.question for heating professionals

I am a wholesaler and we sell TT & Burnham high efficiency condensing gas boilers. I put in my house the Triangle Tube Prestige Excellence PE110 110,000 BTU input boiler with 14 gallon stainless steel indirect water built in the boiler. Great boiler the indirect water heater delivers 3 GPM or 180 GPH can run two showers at one time with 1.6 GPM alsons shower heads. If you need more domestic hot water they have Smart SS indirect water heaters in 30gal to 120galPrestige Solo boiler only in 60,000 - 110,000 - 175,000 - 250,000 & 399,000 BTU input sizes.
Just spoke with tech service at TT and they have new products coming out now. One is their challenger boiler & water heater all in one unit only 3 sizes max is 124,000 BTU input 3 GPM domestic hot water delivery. Other control changes coming to the Prestige boiler line this year.

buying a home with radiator heat
@ March 21, 2011 7:18 PM in buying a home with radiator heat
is it hot water heat or steam heat? if it is hot water heat and there is natural gas available look at installing a 95% condensing gas boiler like the triangle tube Prestige solo boiler and their smart indirect stainless steel water heater for domestic hot water. with the triangle tube smart indirect water heater you can store the water at higher temp like 160*F and install a good tempering valve to reduce water temp to 120*F going to faucets and the indirect water heater will produce more hot water. plus boiler with indirect water heater you only have to vent one appliance. if going condensing gas boiler they vent sidewall so you do not have to worry about the chimney. you said there are three units. Is there one heating system or is everything split up with three different boilers and three systems? if going from oil to condensing Nat gas boiler the savings can be big and pay for the system. if one system you still can set up three heating zones to make sure everyone is comfortable. reduce your water and sewer bills by installing alsons 1.6 GPM sower heads and 1.26 gpf toilets. with low flow shower heads you also will reduce your energy costs to make hot water.Triangle Tube Prestige heat exchanger cleaning
@ March 19, 2011 5:54 PM in Triangle Tube Prestige heat exchanger cleaning
To contractors that have TT prestige boilers installed on natural gas how often are you inspecting and cleaning out the heat exchanger? I know it should be serviced and cleaned every year but are home owners really getting it serviced and cleaned every year? If you are cleaning it every two to three years what does the heat exchanger look like? any photos of the heat exchanger before you cleaned it? Are there any other problems with this boiler that you have experienced after they are in for a few years? The jobs where you switched your customer from oil over to nat gas with the TT Prestige series boilers how much have they lowered their heating bills using nat gas condensing vs old oil boiler?BusYness" survey - Mad Dog

I work in sales for a Plumbing & Heating wholesaler. With the cost of oil going through the roof I have customers quoting home owners with Triangle Tube 95% condensing gas boilers where there is natural gas available. Two years ago I switched from oil old Weil Mclain boiler with domestic coil to Triangle Tube Prestige Excellence 95% AFUE condensing Nat gas boiler and the first year I lowered my heating cost by about $1200 the second year with oil prices higher I will save about $1400 Plus I am now heating a area of my house with radiators off the boiler and not using electric baseboard and I installed a Nat gas kitchen stove and oven removed old electric stove and oven. Still saved $1400 plus lowered my electric bill by $350. Your customers that are heating with oil and have Nat gas available can keep paying high cost for oil or take a loan switch to Nat gas with a good condensing Nat gas boiler and pay the job off with the savings. With oil still going up some jobs can be paid off with savings in 3 to 5 years. If customers that have old oil boilers they can save money with going with a boiler like the Burnham MPO-IQ with outdoor reset and indirect water heater and lower their oil bill. I think contractors will have to show the home owners how much they can save by updating their heating systems. Congress should consider spending a lot less in foreign aid and give that money back in tax credits to home owners who up grade their heating and cooling to high efficiency systems. How about having tax credits at $5000 to the home owner but for the home owner to get the credit they need to stay in their current home where the new equipment was installed for five years and get $1000 federal tax credit per year. If they move before getting all $5000 in federal tax credits they forfeit the remaining amount. This would make contractors busy again and then wholesalers and then manufacturers. Would this type of program help you sell jobs?Pellet with Hot air vs Propane with radiant

I would look at the pellet boiler. How many tons of pellets would you burn?what brand is the 95% pellet boiler? can I look at it on line? Will it be sold by traditional wholesalers or just by dealers?
LP vs oil
@ March 14, 2011 7:27 PM in Oil or Propane
if going with LP look at Triangle Tube Prestige PS60 or PS110 (no chimney needed vented with PVC pipe) If going with PS110 look at using a TT Smart 40 indirect water heater. Also a Noritz LP tankless gas water heater if going LP. I believe if you purchase your own LP storage tanks you can shop for best price. If you rent the LP storage tank only the company that owns the tank can fill it.If going oil look at Burnham MPO-IQ oil boiler add the outdoor reset control add their Alliance AL-35 indirect water heater for hot water. Install two 330 gallon oil tanks buy oil when it looks like it is going to be as low as it can be for the heating season or one oil tank and do a prepay with a good company so you don't loose the money if oil company goes out of business. If going oil I would build a chimney and not sidewall vent it.

@ March 14, 2011 7:14 PM in Circulators in Boiler/Indirect Htr/Radiant System
you can use the ups1558 circulator already in the boiler and pipe to the supply on the indirect water heater. at the back of this boiler where you would pipe it to the indirect come off there and pipe it to the radiant manifold supply. circulator I don't know what size? both returns get piped into the boiler return. if there is only one radiant heating zone. if more than one heating zone pipe it into a caleffi hydrolinkthen out to your heating zones.

TT Challenger new boiler
@ March 12, 2011 1:21 PM in Triangle Tube Challenger Combi
The TT Prestige Solo and Prestige Excellence high efficiency condensing gas boilers with their great SS heat exchanger is a top of the line condensing gas boiler.TT new Challenger condensing gas boiler is limited to only three small sizes. Limited DHW output of 3 GPM can run two showers with 1.5 GPM shower heads.
The Challenger boiler is great for smaller houses with small heating loads and one to two bathrooms with out large tubs or whirlpools where home owners wat to fill them fast that would require a large indirect that can dump water fast.
If you have hard water you need to have a water softener or you can install what 3M Cuno Auqapure has it is their AP430 filter that coats the copper tubing with a food grade chemical that keeps the unit from building up with lime from hard water. 10 GPM flow rate great to use on domestic coil in oil boilers, on tankless gas water heaters and on the domestic side of the TT Challenger boiler. http://www.aquapure.com/sysproducts/big430.html
- Aqua-Pure AP430SS Hot Water System Protector Information:
- The Cuno Aqua-Pure AP430SS system installs BEFORE the hot water heater in order to filter the water before it reaches the hot water heater. This helps prevent damage to the hot water heater from scale build-up.
- The CUNO Aqua-Pure AP430 Hot Water Filter System comes with the AP431 water filter cartridge and the 3/4" inlet and outlet water pipe connector.
- The Aquapure AP430 hot water filter system installs directly on the 3/4" pipe leading into your hot water heater.
- The AP430SS will extend the life of your hot water heater or tankless hot water system by stopping scale build-up and corrosion.
- The AquaPure AP430 Hot Water System Protector increases the efficiency of hot water systems so they run cleaner. The AP430 helps save money on maintenance costs.
- The Aqua-Pure AP430SS scale stopper system features a stainless steel fitting and a consistent dose of Siliphos. Siliphos is a 100% pure food grade scale inhibitor approved by the USDA.
- The AP430 filter system binds calcium and magnesium hardness minerals, preventing them from precipitating out of solution and building up on metallic surfaces which helps prevent piping systems from corrosion and inhibits scale build up in hot water heaters & water using appliances.
I have the Prestige Excellence in my house with cast iron radiators and I love it.
GPM flow rate thrugh cast iron radiators
@ March 10, 2011 8:35 PM in GPM flow rate thrugh cast iron radiators
would the orifice plates be in the supply or return of the second floor radiators?what do they look like? is it like a flat piece of metal with a small hole drilled into it?
when I had the old cast iron weil mclain oil fired boiler on the same piping going to all radiators right off the supply was a pipe that went to the second floor middle room radiator and when the first floor thermostat would turn off the second floor radiators would be warm but not as hot as the first floor radiators but the one on the second floor that came off the large 2" supply first always was the hottest on the second floor.
GPM flow rate thrugh cast iron radiators
@ March 10, 2011 6:42 AM in GPM flow rate thrugh cast iron radiators
Each cast iron radiator will be between 5,000 to 10,000 BTU. I will be using a grundfos Alpha circulator. the system I now have with the large 2" supply & return is a old gravity system that is being pumped but the first floor gets warmer than the second floor and the thermostat turns off. by replacing large 2" pipe and running 1/2" fostapex direct to each radiator with second floor coming off the manifold first and the radiator closest to the thermostat first the second floor temp in radiators should be the same as first floor radiators. with less water in the large 2" pipes the radiators should heat up faster and with the water volume in the large radiators the boiler should still condense most of the season. will run boiler water temp going out to system on coldest days at 150*F or 160*F so system should stay condensing most of the heating season. . .GPM flow rate thrugh cast iron radiators
@ March 9, 2011 8:14 PM in GPM flow rate thrugh cast iron radiators
will be installing a Triangle Tube PE110 Prestige Excellence nat gas boiler in a older home that has cast iron radiators first and second floor.will be piping it primary secondary will be taking out large 2" black supply and return and using a radiant manifold and doing a home run of 1/2" VIEGA fostapex pipe direct to each radiator.
first off the manifold will be the 6 second floor radiators and then the 4 first floor radiators with the radiator closest to the thermostat last.
The manifold will have flow gauges on them and I will be able to balance each radiator so they all get hot at the same time. On the header the max flow GPM to each radiator will be 2 GPM will that be enough to make the radiators heat up and give off enough heat?

take a look at noritz tankless gas water heaters. http://noritz.com/professionals/products/flow_rate_reference/if you use units over 199,000 btu input the units will need to be ASME units.
noritz has ASME units over 199,000 btu input but they also have units that are 199,000 btu input and you would need 5 to 6 units look at models NCC199 condensing PVC vented & NC199 stainless steel vented. look at using ALSONS 1.6 GPM shower heads.

new boiler?
@ March 8, 2011 6:10 PM in Sizing hot water boiler
look at the triangle tube prestige solo and their prestige excellence 95% AFUE condensing gas boilers.for your hose I wold look at using their PS110 boiler only need to add smart 40 or larger stainless steel indirect water heater for domestic hot water or their PE110 boiler with built in SS indirect water heater that will deliver 180 GPH for domestic showers ect...
both boilers come with outdoor reset so the boiler will only deliver the right water temp to your baseboard and radiators depending on outside temp.
Great boiler vents with PVC pipe no chimney needed. can get 5 or 10 year parts and labor warranty to keep you repair cost under control. normal maintenance not covered by the extended warranty. check them out at www.triangletube.com
