YES LOL WHAT IDOT WOULD EVEN THINK ABOUT

@ February 5, 2014 7:23 PM in mini split heat pump install in wi.

Putting a mini split inside much less in Wi. Where do you folks come from, please no air cooled heat pumps above the Mason Dixon line  for the last time

I dont want to start a war

@ January 19, 2014 4:17 PM in A/C Condener replacement

but you should never oversize your condenser on a HVAC system, yes in refrigeration systems,  but no on residential HVAC. I know and the professor knows in certain load requirements but these are 99% of the time on commercial applications but my friend I don't mean to be cruel but it is very apparent you do not have the knowledge to make this work.

PART 2 THE BEST IS YET TO COME

@ January 14, 2014 8:44 PM in PART 2 THE BEST IS YET TO COME

Okay where were we oh yes,  I was winning the beer drinking contest but Chuck Cauley  from Detroit, Mich. was in a close second but he was always better paced at that than I was: but what the heck he always started at 10:00 am everyday. I miss ole Chuck. Yes we were a screwed up bunch of techs. Had one cross dresser ( LOL ROTF ) true found that at one night when we went to a topless bar and shim was waiting tables. Chuck's brother Ken said damn look over there that's &^%$ My cousin Terry said no that can't be she's to ugly to be *&^%$.
All the old crew except myself,  cousin Terry and one of the Albertson brothers are dead and gone, I sure do miss them ole boys; a lot of good times and some really bad hangovers back then. Albertson smoked so much pot over the years I believe it fried his brain. Terry opened his own appliance store and prostate cancer about got him but he is still fighting. My dad was a really mean sob and that's enough about him: his is dead know.
Dad took a call late one Saturday night and sent Chuck and Mike Mauldin  ( he dead to ) up to Mt. Rest on a no heat call. Chuck sent Mike under the crawl space to see why this oil fired furnace was making a terrible bang when the blower came on. Like I said Chuck paced himself on a regular basis, when he turned around all he saw was the back of Mike running down the road. Yes getting late try to finish tomorrow.

Been sitting here pondering where the last 40 years

@ January 13, 2014 7:27 PM in Been sitting here pondering where the last 40 years

Have gone. Most tech today were not even born before the 72 oil embargo. There was only 5 makers of heat-pumps and with-in 12 months there was a total over 40, and boys and girls there were some real dogs out there. I mean real bowwow ( LOL ). Nobody is going to go unscathed tonight folks. Westinghouse and their famed flooded evaporator, took 30 lbs of r-22 to charge a 3 ton unit. Square D and their electronic expansion valve that worked maybe 20% of the time, Fedder's and their famed aluminium  block compressor, Marv Air can't find anything good to say about that bow wow. Amana had the only heat-pump that energized the S.O.V. in the heat mode
York and their defrost board ( LOL ) the board cost almost as much as the unit itself. Trane before they bought G.E. had their hand in the mix to; but the factory went on strike and nobody knew for sure what you would get one order to the next. Well that left Carrier, Lennox and General Electric  and they to had problems from time to time. The only issue Carrier had was they used a compression type of fitting, well we all forgot that soft tubing is oval to a degree and will leak sooner or later. Lennox had the line-set full of little steel balls for metering the refrigerant flow, that worked great until you had to cut the line-set .The big G.E. boys and that stupid Dwyer / Klixon  defrost control, they finally did away with that.
Now back to the main plot ( LOL ) sitting in the shop late one very cold Thursday night. The ole man was snorting and raising the roof over a call-back that came in. Well on Thursday nights that was free beer at the shop night and I was leading the group of 7 techs. My dad was so cheap he wouldn't let us turn the heat on in the back until it got down to 58. Okay fellows I am getting tired will finish up tomorrow.

DID I READ THIS ONE POST RIGHT

@ January 7, 2014 5:39 PM in DID I READ THIS ONE POST RIGHT

That this one fellow tech was dumping the oil out of a new compressor before he installed it or were my meds kicking in late the other night..

Good Morning

@ January 7, 2014 3:29 PM in Good Morning

Boys, girls, men and  women yes it got cold outside. All the possible problems
stuck their little ugly heads out. Yes all the short cuts,  under sizing, miss matching
equipment have come around to bite you n the butt these last few days.  I got a
desperate call for help @ 2:00 am  this morning. Familiar with the building,  I just
laughed  nothing I could do for them. I had already told them the gas piping
was to small and the back up generators couldn't handle the load.  Well our
little town lost power yesterday; yes I was over ruled by this engineer who said
it would never get this cold and the added expense was a waste of time and
money.Well ( now that is a deep subject ) I walked from that job ( LOL ).
I said call that engineer who designed it get him to fix it. Not a thing I could do
beside it was way to cold for me. Yes I am sure this happened all over
America. Well wake up people and smell the crisp air outside because it will get
worse in years to come. Our power grid is a joke and our gag line distribution is
even worse and what is so so sad is nothing is going to be done until its to late
If our President's  had an ounce of sense regarding the peoples need  instead
of bailing all the big companies out they should have done what F.D.R. did
put the folks back to work. Yes they say unemployment is down but what they
don't say is when your benefits run out they quit counting you. Well I have
probably said way to much and be put on the most watch list ( LOL ).
One last word is, can anybody tell me why our Great Big Brother made all the
Television station convert to digital and get away from analogical? I know do
you. Have a great day wet-heads please be careful out in this cold weather.

PEACE BE WITH YOU

never got buddy

@ January 6, 2014 1:59 PM in Am Stand flame flutter. blowing cold air

never got it ,you might want to re send it

I have always told the techs

@ January 5, 2014 7:53 PM in I have always told the techs

If you would learn just to listen to the customer and try not to impress them with what little knowledge you have; you are ahead by 10 fold. The customer aka home owner will tell you all you need to know 90 % of the time.

I had this one tech who would never shut up that a customer told him to just fix the unit and please quit talking so much, really this guy was the world worse ( I finally pedal him off to one of the local colleges and my friend who hired him called me after just 2 days and said do you know this man talks non stop and what did I ever do to deserve this.

I believe in being polite and asking the right question but I don't want to have tea and cookies with them. I sent my youngest son out one day to the Hall sisters ( I will see you soon big e the old man ain't far behind  son ) . Four hours later he returned and said dad why did you send me there. All I said was son better you than me, they were like the Baldwin sisters on the Walton's lol.

I looked at the invoice
planted 10 tomatoes  plants
fixed back door steps
replaced front screen door
repaired tubing to a very large copper pot ( lol rotf )
total  $250.00 paid in full

PEACE BE WITH YOU

I could be wrong

@ January 5, 2014 12:46 AM in prolem with lennox pulse furnace

And have been wrong and try not to assume anything, but I believe I would take the time and check the heat exchanger, I don't want to bad mouth Lennox but they had some issues with that unit and a few other pulses furnace. I don't know how many they recalled but it was more than a few.

I had a nice remote camera that I used to use until  some happy go lucky crack-head stole  and sold for 10 bucks ( hey I would have gave him some pills or money lol ).

Is the gas valve opening and is it sparking to, If it is and you did say you replaced those stupid flapper valves odds are you got a bad fire box. I know its a pain but please do a visual on the fire box my friend

No I edit the message

@ January 4, 2014 7:28 PM in Am Stand flame flutter. blowing cold air

Its this simple Roscoe if he is right and the gas is wrong what does it matter you still have a problem. If you are running a low pressure gas system ( 5 inches  water column )  and have 2 100k btu furnaces you would need at least 1 1/4 black steel for the furnace alone if less than 50 feet in distance from the gas meter plus any elbows, tees or anything else,  that is why I wanted pictures of the gas piping and would like a list of the other gas appliance I don't mind helping but please get me what we have discussed and I will help you. If you cant find a contractor book me a flight first class pick me up at the airport and have plenty of cash. But I think the pictures would be cheaper.

Roscoe

@ January 4, 2014 6:28 PM in Am Stand flame flutter. blowing cold air

I know its getting cold outside and you are very frustrated, but if you can't find a contractor in your area I may need to rethink my semi retirement. If the furnaces were installed per code and believe me code very from gas company to gas company ( lol )  there should be a place to measure the gas coming in. Most furnaces have a port for entering and leaving on the gas valve.

I can't believe that a contractor is so cheap he can not afford to go buy a black tee and put a reducer on it. A have a few questions and hope you give me some good answers okay. Is this installer / contractor at least licensed and was a permit pulled.

I would like a still photo of the gas valve and the burners. Many things can cause gas flutter. I would love to see a picture of the flue piping and gas piping. It is possible that the contractor  (if that is what you want to call him ) could have dropped some pipe dope. I really believe if someone would just put a test kit on it that would answer a lot of questions.

Morning Tim

@ January 2, 2014 3:37 PM in Am Stand flame flutter. blowing cold air

Am I missing something too. Did he not post he had and boiler and 2 furnace.
Do you think maybe the boiler is for potable water only, not clear about this one. If in fact he has twinned to separate furnaces The electrician should have pulled one circuit only and depending on the pull on the wire (Length). If these were two furnace with five ton drive he would need at least a 8-3 with ground and mount a 40 amp box at the furnace then sub feed each furnace on a separate 20 amp circuit.

It is very possible if the units are truly twinned to have one transformer blown and fighting with each other. It really sounds like the whole job was not inspected and done by some folks who are in the dark ( lol ).

are you sure these breakers are breakers and not

@ January 1, 2014 4:22 PM in HVAC Electrical Bard Unit

Listed as a HCAR disconnect breaker, originally these breakers were designed strictly as a disconnect, per N.E.C. requires a dis connect with in arms reach ( that is up for interpretation by many ) . The equipment should be fused properly at the main panel or sub panel , the breakers inside were meant to be a sub for a dis connect which I am not a favor of but what the heck.
By the way those ore a very common item and shouldn't have to wait more than a week at the most. If this is a single phase unit you could easily just mount a disconnect out side of the unit and do away with those worthless piece of craps or even replace with some fuse holders with proper fuse sizes. If you post a picture I can get you what ever you need in less than a week.

@ December 29, 2013 3:29 PM in Need some options folks

I think I am more than qualified to do the work. I was asking some of my friends  for some advice. I meet some really nice folks years ago at a meeting in Marlboro, Mass. that Dan hosted. I meet some really sharp minds and kind folks there and have maintained contact with more than a few of them. Folks like Dan, Mark, David Y,  Eugene, Steam-head, Allen  and a few others have some knowledge that money can't buy and I respect their opinion most of the time. So please don't blast them when they are expressing their ideas to me. I was forced back out of retirement and starting all over again and money is a little tight

My old bodies hurts more and more each day and I hate cold weather more and more. So please be kind to others; especially   when it is was one of my wet-head buddies is tossing out ideas that I asked for thank you.

@ December 28, 2013 3:30 PM in General Electric Gas Boiler

And I agree with Tim you need to call a professional ,but have a question is this is LP or natural gas. My next question is do you have good insurance?  I am not trying to scare you but you know boiler replacement is a lot cheaper than average cost of a funeral.
