excuse me

@ May 3, 2013 10:43 PM in Ef-22a

no propane or other flamables. also a caution to a few out there; you might want to evuacuate the system before you cut it out with your torches even tho you should be cutting them out

yes but 421a contains no butaine

@ May 3, 2013 10:38 PM in Ef-22a

its also the only drop in thats a 2 part blend and has been around for 15 years with out one compressor lost can anybody elses say that

REALLY U DONT KNOW

@ April 21, 2013 7:43 PM in vacuum

Use a micron gauge after you made sure the system has been flushed with dry-nitrogen and pressurized up to 500 psi. And the hits just keep coming in.

ok here is the answer early

@ April 21, 2013 7:39 PM in ok here is the answer early

they had to wait till the outside ambient air got down below 98 with the extreme indoor temp. plus they were not smart enough to take cold water from an outside faucet to keep the head pressure down. Hey this really happened to a very large service company whose name I wont mention.HEY GUYS, IF YOU EVEER GET IN A POSITION WITH EXTREEM HIGH OUTDOOR TEMPS OF 95 DEGREES AND ABOVE ANND IDOORS TEMPS OF ABOVE 86 AND THEY UNIT JUST WILL NOT RUN LOOK AT YOUR PRESSURE CHART. THE HIGH LIMIT WILL KEEP YOU LOCKED OUT.

@ April 20, 2013 3:34 PM in QUESTION FOR THE MONTH

All welcome to try except Eugene.

Scenario, two houses side by side, both have been with out power for 2 days.Outdoor temperature 115F 90%rh. Inside temperature 98F 90%fh. Both house lost a compressor, both three ton scroll, house- a runs on r-22 house- b runs on 410a. Both systems use a fixed orFice on the indoor coil. Service company A arriVeS at house-a at 10:00 am to replace compressors. Service company B arrives 5 minutes later to house B to replace compressor. Service company A finishes, collects and leaves at 2:30 p.m. Service Company B finishes, collects and leaves at 9:30 pm. why so long.

Calling Eugene

@ April 19, 2013 3:48 PM in Calling Eugene

Hey Eugene hope all is well with you and your family. I respect you and your comments very highly.. You and John Williams Jr of the Carrier Co. are one of the very very few folks that I consider my equal n the ac industries. I might not be the best boss or businessman's in the world, but if nothing else i know air and ref flow!!!
I have noticed that many of the so called techs are so less skilled and inexperienced than that of 20 years ago. What is really scary is that are trade is dwindling very rapidly. I recently gave an exam to a group of techs just to see what they knew. How to change out a 3 ton burnt out compressor, the procedures from start to end. It was scary the results over 85 % failed or even close to pass the simple 5 minute test. The average Joe blow doesn't know basic refrigeration.
Most owners don't encourage reclaiming old ref much less own a recovery unit. Most techs out there don't carry a micron gauge, dry-nitrogen, or even a sling psychrcometor. 410a is a very very unfriendly blend and charging is so critical. I have read so many questions that have come in and just shake my head. They go buy a set of gauges and a EPA certification from a local parts house and bam their are in ac business ( lmao rotff smfp ).

Then after 2 or maybe 3 years they decide that thy are a commercial expert technician. Now Eugene I got to share this one with you. A very close friend went out to check on a job, a local contractor did the working blaming the manufacturer company. The contractor mad now at my friend because he shows the contractor that the water piping was piped backwards. A very simple 50 ton water cooled chiller with a remote water tower. Now how stupid can you get. Back to simply charging, why is it so hard. If its in the cooling mode with a cap tube or fixed orifice use super heat dummies. Now it has a tx valve use sub cooling dummies. It does not matter if its 410a or r-22 or even 421a.
Guys just wanting to help, and please take time to clean both coils and pull the blower wheel. Also if it is a furnace with a secondary heat-exchanger clean it to.

PEACE BE WITH YOU

@ April 19, 2013 2:52 PM in Ef-22a

please for once in your life, please listen very careful.
R421a is half the price has no propane and will work on any r-22 product; no oil changes. If i can figure out how to post the 421a pressure chart i will . It is almost identical match. Please email if you have any questions. Yes the big boys don't like it or me but that is ok too. I have spent most of my life trying to be politically correct but I am done. You want the truth ok here it is and a very safe REPLACEMENT and a great product. R 421A

Question about pro press

@ February 22, 2013 8:02 PM in Question about pro press

Hey wet head buddies; you to Dan the man. Love you Dan you know I got to pick on you, wouldn't be right if I didn't at least once or twice a year . Now on to more serious stuff. I was asked to do a boiler retro fit and they are wanting to use pro press, which it is not my favorite thing but that's me.
I have used the pro press in the past on smaller stuff and it was OK, but have always had some issues on the larger copper 2" and bigger. I will on occasions do some work for different colleges and all I have ever heard was that after time on copper 2"  and above on  boilers  there were leaks on the joints.
The last thing I want is a urinating war, I just want the facts if it is me or have there been some issues, not looking for a war of words please just the facts.Thank you for any helpful information and please remember to respect Dan and the Wall.

if its a a residential or commericial ac unit or heatpump. Does not matter if its r-22 or 410a learn how to charge the system the right way. boom if it has a tx valve charge by subcooling. bam if it uses a cap tube or fixed orfice use superheat. But u got to make sure your coils are clean.

Please take a quick moment

@ January 28, 2013 10:05 PM in Please take a quick moment

Go to utube type in David Broome r-22 conversion to 421a. I really don't care if you watch the conversion video but please take time to watch the safety clip I made. It is hard to believe that a service man cut his hand almost completely off with a sawzall. He was trying to cut a piece of ltmf. I did allot of research trying to find a very inexpensive way for the industry's service people to cut and do multiple things with out carry a pipe vise around with them. .Yes I know I need a hair cut but the older I get the more hair I need covering my ears in the winter. Please let me know what you fine folks think about the safety clip .

Hey folks,
First want to say I am so sorry for all the folks who lost a child during that terrible massacre. I know what a heart ache that brings and something you never get over.
Now to my request, I have a 90year old widowed lady needed a very small hot water boiler 40k. She has no money and I am going to change it for free, if I can find someone to donate it to her a new or really good used one that would be wonderful

Mark E. sorry I didnt know

@ December 14, 2012 6:09 PM in hey mark e.

Mark did not know, nor did I mean to put you in the hot seat, just respect your opinion from the past. Hope all i well with you and your family. I will never forget the first time I was introduce to csst pipe in a C.C. Dickson branch late one Friday night. I didn't know who was drunker the instructor or the branch manager but that is here not there lol. I totally agree to rip it out but I did tell the owner I would do some research. I will never forget the first time I used the product and the very last time rotf lmao. This fellow brought out this 250' spool for me to try. I got the guys to roll it out, we ran it out hung the stuff like the instruction said and guess what. I put a pressure test on it and that dri nitrogen just keep running out fast6 as Chad and Gabe could put it in there. Three hours later we finished I ripped every bit out and ran black steel. I got the guys to split that ugly yellow plastic off and right there in the middle of the 100 run was a place about 12' long every little circle joint leaked.

What really upset me CC would not make it good because we took the crappy yellow plastic off.

hey mark e.

@ December 14, 2012 4:33 PM in hey mark e.

Hey Matk need to get an opinion on a csst issue. First let me say I feel so sad about the tragedy that just happened to the children and the adults at the school I havea customer that has csst, copper and some black steel in his home. First I did not do the install. He is very concerned about a lightning strike. He use L.P. gas. He has a underground tank, leaves with copper goes to black steel, then branches off with csst to  water heater, gas furnace, oven and a out door grille.I personally will not use csst inside a home.
His home sits on the lake all 8000sq feet has only one # 6 solid bare copper tieng into his concrete slab. My first suggestion is to ripe it all out, but he really does not want to ripe out the ceilings . These installers snake this stuff close to 125' on one run.
My suggestion was first to drive 2 additional 5/8 copper clad grounding rods in ground and run a continuous # 4 solid copper to his outside 400 amp combo panel. Second was drive another ground rod in the ground and rub a # 6 solid copper to the csst and use approved grounding clamp on the csst.I also recommended install a outdoor light on a 4x4 post separate from the home or foundation since he is last on the power companies transformers, this is and remedy I learned working as a liman for the power company before they were cherry pickers lol. I also recommended a power surge meter.
The owner is a electrical engineer that specializes in communications lol. He was asking about an UL approval on his home, I have worked on some commercial steel buildings where this was done but never a home. I know I am from the deep south and getting old but is this something that passed me by or have I suggested all that can be done. I would appreciate any suggestion from  you or my other wet head buddies.

Peace Be With You

.

hello wet heads

@ December 1, 2012 8:27 PM in chest freezer in a unheated garage?

the big reason for not putting a chest freezer in a unheated space where the temp drops below freezing; the oil in the compressor will freeze up and  the little 1/6  hp or smaller compressor will burn up.  Yep pops that one was for you, he is in heaven now. But me and the old man changed out 40 compressors one month back in 73 when the deep south had  very cold winter.

hanging around

@ November 5, 2012 6:22 PM in Hanging ductless condenser on wall

Tony this is very normal on the beaches, condos, help prevent theft. They make a unit for just that and it is a regular heat pump not a ductless unit. Many times I have been required to hang a condenser to keep it out of the way from the consumers aka college students, drunks and crooks. If you have to work on them it is very awkward at times. I got a call last summer to go work on a 20 ton gas pack on a stand 25 feet up in the air lol. It is amazing what contractors will do to cut down the cost of duct-work. Two months later I got a call from the same building owner to come replace the unit.  A drunk driver hit the platform legs and down came the unit and as the story goes all the kings men couldn't put that 20 ton unit back together again.
