non-condensibles

@ April 22, 2006 5:02 PM in Non-condensibles?

Jeff,in order to determine if you have non-cond. in the system ,is to know what your head press is supposed to be ,for the given conditions, and compare that to the head press that you do have.If your hi side press is higher ,than you. proberly have non-cond in the system

TXV Sizing-R-22 A.C.

@ April 20, 2006 9:44 PM in Sizing of TXV.

Back to the original question! The Sizing of the TXV is based on the pressure drop across the valve. All r-22 TXV's are sized and labled based on 100psi press drop across the valve so a 10 ton TXV is 10.2 tons at the rating of 100 psi pressure drop across the valve. At 200psi pressure drop across the valve, the valve is now rated for 14.4 tons. The 7.5ton TXV at 100psi pressure drop is rated for7.4tons, but at 200psi press drop the 7.5ton TXV is rated for 10.5 tons. On a 72-75* day, the suction press will be 60-65psig and the hi side will be 175-185psig,that is a 120 press drop across the valve. On a 90-95* day,the suction press will be65-75psig and the hi side will be250-300psig .that is a180-215 press drop across the valve. The principle is just like an oil nozzle, raise the pump press from 100psi to 150psi and the oil output goes up.

Heat Antisipator

@ April 20, 2006 9:16 AM in Heat Anticipator

Stewart,Is the t'stat level? Also ,is the hole in the wall where the t'stat wirers comes out of the wall sealed? Sealed with something like "Thumbgum"? O.K. The H.W. t'stat #T87F has a setting of .10 which is the amp draw of the H.W.relay# R7184P .Try setting the slide bar to .10 , then run the system and see what happens.

out of oil

@ April 20, 2006 8:10 AM in Oil Heater

Brenda, Diesel or kerosene would do just fine. It sounds like the fuel pump needs to be bled or purged, but doing that by yourself, without some experience can be very messy, smelly and just a little dangerous.Call an oil service company this time, maybe they will show you how to properly bleed the system for the next time. Waiting from Monday to Thursday for an oil delivery seems to be a bit of await ,I would be upset about the 4 day waiting time .Good Luck

Vacuum Pumps

@ April 18, 2006 7:31 AM in Vac Pump Testing

Greetings. We use our vac pumps all year long, doing refrigeration service,so,we test our pumps by using them on a regular basis.I did work for one company that had one vac pump for five mechanic's, the pump sat on the shelve,in the shop until it was "needed" by one of the mechanics By the way ,350-500 micron's is ok. How long does it to pull a proper vacuum? Is the vacuum reading at the vacpump{usually connected to the condensing unit} the same as the vacuum reading at the evap coil 80-100' away?

Pilot conversion

@ April 17, 2006 4:13 PM in Instructions for retrofiting continuous pilot to IntermitSpark

Mike, same as Gene said. But, if you insist.First, how many lives are at stake, then, read ALL instructions from Modine ,Honeywell ,and the gas valve people. Now as a professional, if all components are compatable, then I would make the swap out.You are taking a chance here ,is it worth it?

Goodman.

@ April 16, 2006 7:38 AM in goodman

Well said Mike T. Nothing wrong with a Goodman,it's a "contractor' unit".

TXV's

@ April 16, 2006 7:35 AM in The Thermostatic Expansion Valve

Greg. Alot of commercial refrigeration systems operate on a "low pressure" control, which means the TXV has to be a "non bleed" type. The temp of the refrig unit slowly raises as does the pressure in the low side of the system. The bleed style TXV would allow the loside press to rise rapidly, causing the comp to come on again, long before the refrig case actually warms up.

PROBLEM?

@ April 15, 2006 9:16 PM in Is there a Problem?

Hay Don. Weather is GREAT.I service a lot of refrig and AC's, looking for another good season.

Problem ?

@ April 15, 2006 3:56 PM in Is there a Problem?

Hi Don. Is that wire romex or UF ?
