Thanks Rob

@ July 31, 2006 3:54 PM in Attaching 1/2\" hePEX Plus for slab heating???

Sounds good to me. I'll save on the concrete costs also. And with the tubes at the bottom I guess I'll be fine with cement guy saw cutting for his joints. I do already have the foil bubble wrap, can this be used with the foam? Or should I just return it? Ok thanks but what if......

@ July 31, 2006 2:42 PM in Attaching 1/2\" hePEX Plus for slab heating???

it was your garage and you wanted the best? You mentioned that attaching to the insulation was fastest and easiest. It is my own residence so I'm willing to put in the extra time, effort, and cost to do it the very best (withen reason I guess). So is there a better way to install for the long term comfort, response time, effeciency, etc? Thanks To Learn More About This Professional, Click Here to Visit Their Ad in "Find A Professional"

R-22 VS 410-A

@ July 31, 2006 2:33 PM in R-22 VS 410-A

We have to fix someone elses bad work. It's a Unico system with a 75'(plus) lineset(7/8" X 3/8"), with a 25' rise. My supplier says 410-A can handle a longer lineset compared to r-22. What do you think? (To run a new lineset would add a huge cost to this job.) We were thinking of leaving the lineset, adding oil traps, and changing out the condenser, and Unico equipment to 3 ton. Tubing in the middle?

@ July 31, 2006 2:26 PM in Attaching 1/2\" hePEX Plus for slab heating???

That would put the tubing at the bottom of the slab.....no problem, or inefficiency? To Learn More About This Professional, Click Here to Visit Their Ad in "Find A Professional"

Saw cut clearance?

@ July 31, 2006 12:05 PM in Attaching 1/2\" hePEX Plus for slab heating???

Is the 6" going to kill me on fuel bills trying to heat it? The cement guy just figured to have plenty of clearance for his cuts. I figured more is better!???? The garage will be mostly empty for the next four or so years (indoor basketball, etc). After that I'm not sure, probably morph int a regular garage, cars, etc, maybe some of my business equipment (I'm hoping to avoid the last one. Thanks.....Ultra CBF Bubble/Foil/Bubble

@ July 31, 2006 10:25 AM in radiant in garage floor

That is right off the package. Covertech Fabricating, Inc. Ontario, Canada. I don't see a R factor on the package. They do have a tech support line I'm going to call 888-313-3258 ext. 255. But it's looking like I want the 250 foam. I'd rather over do it then under do it. Especially since it's my own home. @ July 31, 2006 10:15 AM in Attaching 1/2\" hePEX Plus for slab heating???

I'm installing 1/2" hePEX Plus in a 35' X 29' garage floor. I thought I'd put in 4-250' loops in. Also thinking about 2 zones. What do you guys think? (I also had an earlier post on slab insulation.) The cement guys have the wire mesh laying out on my lawn. It's not the beefiest stuff. Will I have a problem keeping the tubing and the wire mesh in place during (or even before) the pour? We're figuring a 6" slab, with saw cuts. So we obviously have to keep the tube down a couple of inches. Any good suggestions on this? Yes I am a licensed/insured/etc. mech./boiler contractor. Just not a lot of infloor experience (mostly due to my location....steam heat, old homes, etc). Thanks Again! Lots of good info...but just a couple of more questions

@ July 31, 2006 9:30 AM in radiant in garage floor

Thanks for the help guys. I guess I,m sold in the foam. I'll look for the better stuff. Could/should I still use the bubble wrap under or over the foam? Would it hurt or help? Also do I tape or just overlap my vapor barrier? Last but not least....can I find the better foam at Home Depot or Lowes? Second opinion............

@ July 29, 2006 3:47 PM in radiant in garage floor

I'll take your word for it, but..........I have a long, and very good relationship with this specific supplier. They specialize in hydronics. I guess I'm a doubting Thomas. Are there any studies/results, etc I can check out? Any one else have a take on slab and perimeter insulation? foil bubble insulation?

Foam thickness around perimeter for garage radiant?

@ July 29, 2006 11:17 AM in radiant in garage floor

Any pointers on radiant for a 34' X 29' garage floor? Best type, thickness, etc of perimeter and underneath insulation? I am a heating contractor and am doing the job myself. However I do not have a lot of radiant floor experiance. I'm looking for the best job possible and using it as a possible "show" job. (As well as a place for a young basketball player, my son, to have a place to practice anytime.) We are in the Detriot area. Add a new main air vent?

@ May 8, 2006 5:09 PM in Webster Return Trap question

Good points....checking traps, and pressure, and the water level (very good chance it's lower). I know it's not the correct fix but........what about putting a Gorton #1 in the top in place of the old ball bearing gizzy to stop the steam from destroying the boiler room?
