LOCHINVAR® ANNOUNCES FEBRUARY VIP PROGRAM WINNERS

Lochinvar has selected the latest monthly winners of the VIP Installation Showcase and the VIP Drawing.  Mark Fryer of Young Services in Carbondale, Colorado, was named the February VIP Installation Showcase winner, and Brian Copelli of Advanced Hydronics in Denver, Colorado, was randomly selected in the monthly drawing. Both winners have solidified their spots on the Nashville Experience trip this June, which includes tickets to the world’s largest country music festival.   An Impressive Installation Mark Fryer’s entry in the VIP Installation Showcase, which received more than 100 votes, described downsizing an existing 30-year old boiler system that consisted of two 1.2 million Btu/hr boilers tied to two 1,500 gallon storage tanks and two 2.5 million Btu/hr boilers.  After critically sizing the boilers through a heat loss analysis, Fryer and his team determined that they could downsize the system considerably while still providing redundancy for the building.  To achieve a more ... New Noritz NRC661 Condensing Tankless Water Heater Delivers High Performance and Lower Installation Costs

The ENERGY STAR®-rated NRC661 makes choosing a high-efficiency, tankless water heater for the home more affordable than ever, especially when replacing a storage-tank-type unit.Featuring the same energy-saving condensing technology as the rest of the Noritz eco-TOUGH™ Series of gas-fired residential tankless water heaters, the NRC661 has an Energy Factor of 0.91 for natural gas and 0.93 for LP. These ratings are nearly 10 points higher than that of a comparably sized, conventional tankless unit, and approximately 30 points higher than a standard, tank-type gas-fired water heater. Half-inch gas connection: But the bigger news is that the market’s smallest condensing tankless water heater can deliver 6.6 gallons per minute, with a maximum input of 120,000 BTU per hour (BTUh), using a half-inch gas line up to 120 feet in length. A new, more accurate interpretation of the National Fuel Gas Code permits the use of the smaller-diameter gas piping for ... Read More

SolarLogic Awarded Patent for Self-Cooling Solar Thermal Collector

Overheated collectors are now a thing of the past! This week, SolarLogic, LLC, was awarded a U.S. patent for a solar thermal collector that cools itself in any climate. The new solar collector design can be used to heat domestic hot water, radiant floors and other liquid-filled heating systems, pools, and spas, and can even be used to cool a building at night. This patent, SolarLogic’s fifth, represents a great move forward for the solar thermal industry. Two of the significant challenges of solar heating system design over the past 40 years have been managing excess heat produced by solar collectors when it is not needed (typically summer), and preventing solar collectors from overheating in case of failure of other components like pumps or electronic controls. Overheating damages the working fluid and system components, and can result in costly repairs and non-functioning systems. In the past, standard designs addressed this issue by ... Read More

American Standard Seeks to Raise Global Standard of Living through Safer Sanitation

View Video: Meet SaTo, the hygienic toilet pan that provides safer sanitation Almost half the world lacks a safe way to go to the bathroom. And almost half of North Americans surveyed have no idea that lack of sanitation facilities causes 2,000 deaths per day, mainly among children. In regions of the world where water is scarce and sewer infrastructure doesn't exist, open pit latrines allow disease to spread through direct and indirect contact with human waste. American Standard, the leading toilet manufacturer in North America, has launched a campaign to increase awareness of this crisis and to stimulate action that protects the health of all people through well-engineered plumbing solutions American Standard engineers have invented SaTo (pronounced SAH-toh, derived from “Safe Toilet”), a cost effective hygienic latrine pan that uses an ingeniously simple mechanical seal and water seal to reduce disease transmission by closing off pit latrines from ...
