Germany’s Government Seeks EUR 1 Billion Fund for Renewable Energy

BERLIN, March 18 (Reuters) - Germany's government will discuss plans to raise the size of its renewable energy fund to 1 billion euros from a current 300 million, according to a draft paper seen by Reuters on Friday. In its effort to make up a shortfall of nuclear power due to a three month moratorium imposed this week, the government aims to boost renewable power and energy saving.  Bob DeWyze, former Director of ITT Bell & Gossett's Little Red Schoolhouse in Morton Grove, Illinois, for more than 40 years, recently passed away. DeWyze trained tens of thousands of HVACR professionals at one of the industry's most venerable educational institutions from the mid-1950s until his retirement in 1997.  An ex-Marine and World War II veteran, Bob was known for his no nonsense approach to quality education.           Born on January 16, 1923, he was 88 years old when he died on February 8, 2011.  He is survived by his daughter Renee and sons Bruce and Brian, and three grandchildren. LAARS gets OK for new addition

ROCHESTER — The Planning Board unanimously accepted as complete and approved the new addition on LAARS Heating Systems' manufacturing building at 20 Industrial Way. The plans include a 12,800-square-foot addition to the existing building that will house a new training room, additional offices and a break room. There will also be 86 new parking spaces added to the existing lot, according to Rick Lundborn of Norway Plains Associates, the engineering firm that submitted the application. (more) Read More

A. O. Smith Announces Record Earnings for 2010 and Provides 2011 Guidance

A. O. Smith Corporation (NYSE: AOS) reported 2010 earnings from continuing operations of $57.3 million or $1.24 per share on sales of $1.49 billion, which included an after-tax charge of $21.6 million, or $0.47 per share, associated with the flooding that impacted the company's Ashland City, Tenn., facility in May.  The discontinued Electrical Products operations earned $54.4 million or $1.18 per share on sales of $705.8 million. The combined businesses earned a record $111.7 million, or $2.42 per share, in 2010. Earnings for 2009 were $81.3 million or $2.36 per share.  Non-GAAP earnings for 2009, excluding the impact of the SICO transaction, were $89.7 million or $1.97 per share.  In the fourth quarter, the combined businesses earned $32.2 million or $0.69 per share in 2010 compared with $22.7 million or $0.50 per share in 2009.  (more) Read More
