Century of Pride tee shirt
During the summer of 1997, I spent a week sitting on the porch of a house that was built across the street from the sea in 1876. Beautiful, Victorian Cape May, New Jersey can make you stop for a while and become pretty introspective.
As I looked up at the woodwork of this fine old house that had survived fires, floods and hurricanes, I thought for a moment about the Dead Men who had built it. I had some writing paper and a pen on the table next to my rocker. I picked up the pen and wrote these words:
A hundred years from now, they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skills but never know my name. And that will be good enough for me.
I thought about this sentiment from the perspective of both the Dead Men and myself. I hope that someday they will gaze upon my work and marvel at my skill. And if they don't remember my name, well, that will be fine. My work will have stood for something.
When we got back to Long Island, I had some shirts made that carry on their backs those thoughts from a summer's day in Cape May. We had these shirts made from heavy-duty, preshrunk cotton. The Dead Men logo and the pipes that surround the words appear in full color. The shirt is light gray (they call it Heather) and we offer it to you in one size - Extra Large - because that's how big your efforts should always be. On the front, in black letters, are the simple words "Dead Men."
Wear it with pride.
