Steam and Hot Water Primer, by Chris Langley and Andrew Sacks

If you work on commercial steam- or hot-water systems I think you're going to really like this one. It covers a wider range and the photos and drawings are easy to follow. It's a complete and very good primer and there's a terrific licensing-prep area in the back of the book that will help you pass that upcoming test.

Check out the Table of Contents:

Chapter 1 - Introduction

Chapter 2 - Types of Boilers

Chapter 3 - Boiler Appurtenances and Accessories

Chapter 4 - Feedwater Pumps, Steam Turbines, Steam and Condensate Systems

This textbook clearly targets the beginning stationary engineer and offers a very concise plain language text that neither "talks" up or down to any skill level. It will be used by the newbie as well as the seasoned vet in the boiler room. It will not stray too far from my desk either; as I will use it as a valuable resource for the Red Seal Steamfitter program I teach. Shortcomings? In the material presented I see none; but would dearly love to see a section on refrigeration in the next edition. All steamfitters should appreciate this book too. Well written with a sense of purpose.
